The Whisper Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Nick and Irene Markos. Our Goal is to raise the level of awareness for children born with hearing loss, which can affect the developmental goals a child needs to attain in order to progress. A child born with hearing loss may experience delays in developing important communication skills early in a child's life. Hearing Aids can give a better chance of acquiring these communication skills, which are key components in the socialization process of a developing child. Other children may require more invasive approaches  such as Cochlear implants; cochlear implants require surgery, where an electronic device is implanted that helps provide a sense of sound. This helps the child to identify sounds at an earlier age. Sound is a key element in a child's developmental process, and early diagnosis is vital to help a child reach their developmental goals.

In addition to a child's developmental concerns, a family may encounter other, unexpected circumstances. Some of these unexpected circumstance may include the financial stress associated with implants and hearing aids, as well as other unforeseen expenses.

Health insurance coverage for cochlear implant services has improved greatly in recent years. The majority of commercial health plans and managed care organizations now provide some level of benefits for the procedure and other related services, including programming and aural rehabilitation for cochlear implants. The increase in related coverage is largely due to an increase in awareness regarding the costs and outcomes of cochlear implantation. Fortunately, federal and state laws (such as the Americans with Disabilities Act) now prohibit exclusionary insurance policies that deprive cochlear implant candidates from the only opportunity to alleviate their hearing loss.

"No child should be denied a chance at listening,

speaking and enjoying the quality of life."

The Whisper foundation believes every child suffering from hearing loss should have a chance to hear a whisper.

Our Goal to achieve this is to help by giving families the hope and resources in order to have their child receive the proper care and attention. As parents of a child with severe hearing loss, we chose this path in order to help children  enjoy  a better quality of life . We strive to give families that  hope to have their child get the proper care and attention. We believe, and together with your help, our whispers can be transformed into voices.
